Personal details about members of the Kessel family, and confirmations of receipt of monies signed by Lejba Kessel, August - September 1944. 5 pages, handwritten, in Polish.
1) Personal details (for the purpose of receiving financial aid), one page.
Lejba Kessel, born in Lublin on April 7, 1902, lived in Krasnik; Estera Kessel, nee Frydman, was born in Krasnik on March 10, 1911; Eta Kessel was born on July 23, 1937; Majer Kessel was born on April 14, 1941.*
2.1) Confirmation of receipt of 1,000 zl., Aug. 13, 1944; one page.
2.2) On the back of the page are the birthdates of most of the family members - Lejb Kessel, April 7, 1902; Estera Kessel, March 10, 1910;** Eta Kessel, July 23, 1937 -- with a notation that they came from Krasnik in the Lublin region. One page.
3) Confirmation of receipt of 10 zl., Sept. 1, 1944.*** One page.
4) Confirmation of receipt of 3,000 zl. for three people, Sept. 6, 1944; one page.
* Underneath the personal details is written “works [m. sing.] in an egg warehouse;” apparently referring to the head of the household, Lejba. The “egg warehouse” may refer to a munitions factory (in a camp).
** According to the memo note of Item No. 1, above, Estera’s year of birth is given as 1911, and on this note, 1910.
*** As a security precaution similar to measures taken in other clandestine correspondence and documents of that period, two zeros were omitted in writing figures, such that 10 zl. represents a sum of 1,000 zloty. Close
