From the Israel Kaplan collection:
Josef Gertner, a native of Lithuania: his testimony about the Sirutiskis camp near Kedainiai and the Kedainiai camp - and about his escape and his circulating in the forest until the liberation.
Testimony taken on June 1, 1955. One page, handwritten, in Hebrew.
He came to the Sirutiskis camp from the Kaunas (Kovno) ghetto in September 1942. Fifty inmates of the camp were sent to forced labor loading gravel. In August 1943 Gertner was transferred to the Kedainiai camp and put to work at the airfield. On Feb. 12, 1944, twelve men, and Gertner among them, escaped to the forest near Lanciunava. After about a month four more Jews joined them who also had escaped the camp. On the night between July 29 - 30, 1944, they were liberated by the Soviet Red Army. Close
