A Grove of Trees -- a watercolor Frederick Terna, an internee in the Terezin (Theresienstadt) ghetto.
Terna was born in Vienna (Wien) in 1923 to a family from Prague (Praha), to which they returned when Frederick was three years old. During the Nazi occupation he was interned in the Terezin ghetto, then sent on a transport to the Auschwitz camp and transferred to the Kaufering camp. Following the liberation and a period of rehabilitation, he returned to Prague. In 1946 he went to Paris, and in 1952 moved to New York City. Close
