Members of the "Ichud" Zionist pioneering training program (hachshara) at Picciola in the British army camp there.
In the photo: Chaya Bronstein - Chazanowicz (on the right) and Ester Berkowicz, two young women who came from Czechoslovakia.
Also in the photo: Falik Chazanowicz (center).
Photographed in 1945 or 1946.
In the hachshara at Picciola were young Holocaust survivors, several of whom were relatives of soldiers from Mandate Palestine serving in the British army, plus other young Jews who were "adopted" by these soldiers. The soldiers, in the RAOC units 514 and 555, took care of their charges' needs, including clothing (for example, articles of military uniforms). Close
