Heinrich Himmler, the SS commander, touring the Minsk ghetto. One of the Jews on the other side of the ghetto fence has a circle on his chest. In this ghetto there was no Star of David but rather a yellow cloth circle, 10 cm. in diameter. Photographed in 1942.
The Minsk ghetto had a section populated by Jews from Hamburg. At a certain stage the ghetto had no street signs, only numbers on the buildings. The ghetto's Jews, both locals and German immigrants, were required to wear a patch with their house number beneath the yellow circle. This decree was in force beginning in June - July 1942. Close
