1) Lanir was born in Lvov on January 16, 1918. He was a member of the He - Chaluts movement in the pioneering training programs in Lodz and Kielce. Four days after the outbreak of WWII he went with 120 He - Chaluts members from the German - occupied territory to the area controlled by the USSR. There he was arrested and imprisoned for smuggling Zionist pioneers from the Soviet occupied zone in Poland to Romania. He was sentenced to 10 years of banishment to the northern USSR. As a Polish citizen he received a pardon and was transferred to the kolkhozes in Kazakhstan. In 1946 he returned to Poland and from there he was sent to France to work in Paris with the emissaries organizing immigration to Palestine.
2) The "Irgun Ha - Bricha" [Hebrew: flight, escape]: a movement and organization for smuggling Jews out of Eastern Europe to central and southern Europe, 1944 - 1948, with the ultimate objective of immigration to Palestine.
3) Jetty - Yael Hoogstraal was born on July 29, 1920, in Assen, the Netherlands. She trained as a nurse in a Zionist pioneering training program (hachshara). Close
