Coins used as currency in the Lodz ghetto and an announcement on religious ritual there. The announcement, in Yiddish, explains the change in candle lighting times for the start and end of the Sabbath. The coins show the two sides of a ten - mark coin, minted in 1943, used as "ghetto money." The photograph was sent from Bucharest (Bucuresti) in 1944 by Dov Berger - Harari, a Jewish parachutist from Mandate Palestine, to his mother.
With the printing of the new calendar for 1943, the new clock came into use in the ghetto. The candle lighting was moved up by an hour, as was printed on this calendar. Close
