The bodies of inmates burned alive in a barracks in the Gardelegen camp. Photographed on April 15, 1945.
Note: 150 Soviet, French, Polish and Jewish inmates were imprisoned in the barracks with straw soaked in fuel. A 16 - year - old SS soldier set it on fire, and SS troops shot the inmates attempting to escape from the burning building. The SS then abandoned the camp and fled from the approaching American army.
