The Delegazione Assistenza Emigranti [Delegation for Assistance to Immigrants] organization operated in Italy, with the permission of the governmental authorities and under the auspices of the Committee of Jewish Communities. Delasem provided aid to Jews who had fled countries under Nazi occupation. Its primary activity was to identify emigration destinations abroad and assisting the Jews in this process. Following Italy's surrender to the Germans on September 8, 1943, Delasem operated underground. Close
