"Megillat Esther" handwritten by Mendel Kott in calligraphic microwriting as a substitute "Mishloach Manot" for chairman of the Lodz ghetto Aeltestenrat ("Council of Elders"), Chaim Rumkowski.
Kott lived in Kalisz before the war. He was an artist. Mendel Kott and his wife, Hanka Kott nee Batos, perished in the Auschwitz camp.
In the attached cover letter he wrote,
“To the honored Leader, Mr. Chaim N.I. Rumkowski,
“It is my desire to perform the mitzvah of “sending portions, each person to his fellow,” and as at this time, to my heart’s sorrow, I cannot obtain precious objects to send, therefore I send something most precious to me: this is Megillat Esther written on two parts of a postcard. I am sure that the Leader will understand me and will accept my Mishloach Manot.
“With great respect,
