Berta Albert Kamchi, a member of the Bulgarian underground. Note: Berta Kamchi was born in 1900 in Sofia. She perished in the Kaylaka camp. In this camp, near the city of Pleven, some 200 Jews were interned, out of a group of hundreds arrested in 1943 by the Commission for Jewish Affairs in Bulgaria. On July 10, 1944, a fire broke out in one of the barracks and eleven of its inhabitants were burned alive. It remains unclear whether the fire was accidental or intentionally set.
